Discovery of three new pulsars in a 610 MHz pulsar survey with the GMRT

چکیده
We report on the discovery of three new pulsars in the first blind survey of the north Galactic plane (45◦ < l < 135◦; |b| < 1◦) with the Giant Meterwave Radio telescope (GMRT) at an intermediate frequency of 610 MHz. The survey covered 106 square degrees with a sensitivity of roughly 1 mJy to long-period pulsars (pulsars with period longer than 1 s). The three new pulsars have periods of 318, 933, and 1056 ms. Their timing parameters and flux densities, obtained in follow up observations with the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank and the GMRT, are presented. We also report on pulse nulling behaviour in one of the newly discovered pulsars, PSR J2208+5500.

متن کاملGMRT Discovery of A Millisecond Pulsar in a Very Eccentric Binary System
We report the discovery of the binary millisecond pulsar J0514−4002A, which is the first known pulsar in the globular cluster NGC 1851 and the first pulsar discovered using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). The pulsar has a rotational period of 4.99ms, an orbital period of 18.8 days, and the most eccentric pulsar orbit yet measured (e = 0.89). The companion has a minimum mass of 0.9M⊙...
متن کاملDiscovery of Eight Recycled Pulsars – The Swinburne Intermediate Latitude Pulsar Survey
We have conducted a pulsar survey of intermediate Galactic latitudes (15 < |b| < 5) at 20 cm. The survey has been highly successful, discovering 58 new pulsars, eight of which are recycled, in only ∼14 days of integration time. One pulsar has a very narrow (2 FWHM) average profile for the pulsar’s period (278 ms). The six new recycled binary systems provide valuable information on the formation...
متن کاملExploring the remarkable subpulse drift and polarization properties of PSR B0818−41
PSR B0818−41 is one of the few pulsars which show multiple drift regions having well defined phase relationship. In this paper we report new results from the multifrequency observations of this pulsar with the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). We determine the mean flux of the pulsar at multiple frequencies and find evidence for a low frequency turnover in its spectrum. Significant linear...
متن کاملA Search for Rapidly Spinning Pulsars and Fast Transients in Unidentified Radio Sources with the NRAO 43 Meter Telescope
We have searched 75 unidentified radio sources selected from the NRAO VLA Sky Survey catalog for the presence of rapidly spinning pulsars and short, dispersed radio bursts. The sources are radio bright, have no identifications or optical source coincidences, are more than 5% linearly polarized, and are spatially unresolved in the catalog. If these sources are fast-spinning pulsars (e.g., sub-mi...
